Dr. Lee was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Mind Music Machine Lab at Virginia Tech in 2019-2020. Now, he is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Media, Culture and Design Technology & Department of Human-Computer Interaction at Hanyang University ERICA.

Zhi Zheng

Dr. Zheng was a Research Assistant Professor at the Mind Music Machine Lab at Michigan Tech in 2016-2017. Now, she is an Assistant Professor in the Departmet of Electrical Engineering at University of Notre Dame.

Shabnam

Dr. FakhrHosseini received her PhD degree in Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors from Michigan Tech in 2018. Her PhD dissertation is entitled, "How do angry drivers respond to emotional music? A comprehensive perspective on assessing emotion". Now, she is a Research Scientist at MIT AgeLab.

Jason

Dr. Sterkenburg received his PhD degree in Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors from Michigan Tech in 2018. His PhD dissertation is entitled, "Design and evaluation of auditory-supported air gesture controls in vehicles". Now, he is a Human Factors Senior Engineer at Google Health.

Steven

Dr. Landry received his PhD degree in Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors from Michigan Tech in 2019. His PhD dissertation is entitled, "Interactive sonification strategies for the motion and emotion of dance performances". After working as a postdoc researcher at MIT AgeLab, now, he is working as a Driver Performance Researcher at GM (General Motors).

Steven

Dr. Barnes received her MS in Computer Science at Michigan Tech in 2017. Her MS thesis is entitled, "Musical robot dance freeze for children". Then, she received her PhD student in Computer Science at Michigan Tech in 2023. Her PhD dissertation is entitled, "Toward a longitudinal program of in situ social robotics research and informal STEAM education". Now, she is working as a Senior Software Engineer at Autonomic. 

Dr. Zhang received her PhD in Computer Science at Michigan Tech in 2016. Now, she is working as a Software Engineer in the core financial applications group at Bloomberg LLC in New York City.

Manhua

Dr. Wang received her PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2024. Her PhD Dissertation is entitled, "Designing explainable in-vehicle interfaces for conditionally automated driving: A holistic examination with mixed method approaches". Dr. Wang will join University of Michigan IOE Program as an Assistant Professor in 2025 Fall. Before that, she is now working as a PostDoc Researcher at the Virginia Tech Transportation Research Institute.

Sangjin received his MEng in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2020. During his tenure at VT, he was working on the emotive robot voice project, the gesture-based drone controller project, the new auditory dispaly for level 4 automated vehicles project, and the computational modeling of driver behavior in semi-automated vehicle project.

Ashin received her MEng (MS project option) in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2020. Her MS project is entitled, "Comparative Analysis of Facial Affect Detection Algorithms".

Eric received his accelerated MS in Computer Science at Michigan Tech in 2018. During his tenure he worked on many projects, including the smart exercise app for the blind people, the drone controller using a Myo armband, the child-robot theater project in the lab. Now, he is working as a software deverloper in industry.

Ridwan received his MS in Computer Science at Michigan Tech in 2017. His MS thesis is entitled, "Musical exercise for people with visual impairments". Now, he is working as a software developer in industry.

Sunny received her MS in Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors at Michigan Tech in 2016. Her MS thesis is entitled, "Multisensory cue congruency in lane change test". Now, she is working at United Technologies Research Center in Shanghai.

Steven received his MS in Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors at Michigan Tech in 2016. His MS thesis is entitled, "Gettin’ active at passive crossings: Investigating the efficacy of in-vehicle auditory alerts for rail road crossings". Now, he is a PhD student in the tri-M Lab.

Jason received his MS in Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors at Michigan Tech in 2015. His MS thesis is entitled, "Impacts of distraction on driving: an analysis of physical, cognitive, and emotional distraction". Now, he is a PhD student in the tri-M Lab.

Hye Sung "Hank" Moon received his MS degree in Computer Science at Virginia Tech in 2022. His MS Thesis is entitled, "The Effect of Interaction Method and Vibrotactile Feedback on User Experience and Performance in VR Games" and . Hyesung is now working on autonomous vehicles at Nuro, a robotics company, based in Mountain View, California. 

Sush received her MS in Computer Science at Virginia Tech in 2021. Her MS thesis is entitled, "Exploring the effects of language on angry drivers' situation awareness, driving performance, and subjective perception". Sush is now working at Amazon.

Emily received her BE in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. She was working on the emotive robot voice project and the auditory heuristic project.

Xuan received his BE in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. He was working on the in-vehicle auditory alerts for highway rail corssings project.

Siting received her BE in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. She was working on the new auditory display for level 4 automated vehicle project.

Joey received his BS in Psychology and Computer Science at Michigan Tech in 2018. Now, he is working as a Heuristics and Adaptive Strategies Manager at 24G in Michigan.

Dylan received his BS in Computer Science at Michigan Tech in 2018.

Neil received his BS in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan Tech in 2015. After working as a mechanical engineer in Advanced Concept Development at Kohler Co., now he is a MA student in Interdisciplinary Studies, Pro-Environmental Consumer Behavior at University of Toronto.

Kristina received her BE in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginiga Tech in 2022. Kristina is now working at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an industrial engineer.

Jing received her MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2023. Her MS Thesis is entitled, "The effects of transparency and reliability of the in-vehicle agent on drivers in level 3 automated vehicles." Jing is now a PhD student in the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue Univerity.

Yusheng received his MS in Computer Science at Virginia Tech in 2022. His MS Thesis is entitled, "Increase driving situation awareness and in-vehicle gesture-based menu navigation accuracy with heads-up display." Yusheng is now a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech.

Moustafa received his MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2022. His MS Thesis is entitled, "Novel in-vehicle gesture interactions: Design and evaluation of auditory displays and menu generation interfaces." 

Xiaozhen received her MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2023. Her MS Thesis is entitled, "The effects of a humanoid robot's non-lexical vocalization on emotion recognition and robot perception." Now Xiaozhen is a PhD student at Cornell Tech.

Harsh received his MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2020. His MS thesis is entitled, "Measuring the influence of anger on takeover performance in semi-automated vehicles". Harsh is now working as a Human Factors researcher at the Carilion Clinic.
